LASER EPILATION Four Season Epilation with Alexandrite Laser and Nd-Yag Laser

LASER EPILATION Four Season Epilation with Alexandrite Laser and Nd-Yag Laser

What is laser?

Laser (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) is transfer of light as a straight bundle in a single wave length. It is absorbed by melanin pigment in hair follicle.

All lights are in a single wave length in laser light. Laser light moves without being distributed as it is composed of photon particles which proceed at the same moment and at the same phase. Laser was first discovered in 1958 and has been used in various fields of medicine since 1983. It has been widely used for the recent 15-20 years for epilation purposes.

What is laser epilation?

Laser epilation is the most common way for elimination of hair. Safety and effectiveness of laser were approved by American Food and Drug Association (FDA) in 1997.

Laser epilation is the modern epilation method today. Various laser types and devices are available. Laser should be selected by the physician according to hair structure, skin color or the body part. Side effects may be reduced through this way.

How does laser epilation effect?

It influences through leading to photo-thermolysis by providing an optic energy composed of a light at a single wave length. The optic energy is absorbed by the color substances in the target tissue (spot, vessel , hair root) and turned to thermal energy. This thermal energy damages the target tissue by leading to minimum or no injury.

How does the hair influenced by laser light?

Laser is absorbed by melanin pigment in hair follicle and turned to thermal energy. The temperature in hair root reaches 60-70 °C, hair root is damaged.

Hair roots are located at 2-5 mm under the skin depending on the body part. Wave length of the device should be within these ranges. Therefore selection of the correct device is important. Laser light is sent to the hair so as not to harm the neighboring tissues with elective thermolysis method. So detection of the energy and duration is of great importance.

Who can be applied laser epilation?

Each gender may be applied laser epilation. It may be applied successfully to everybody over 14 years.

To which body parts can laser epilation be applied?

It may be applied to all body parts however eyes should be protected from direct light.

What is the difference of laser epilation from the other methods?

The other methods like wax may lead to skin infection and contagious diseases. However laser epilation does not. It is a rapid method, no data are available indicating its carcinogenic effect. Optic energy damages the target tissue through converting to thermal energy. Outcomes are permanent due to this destructive effect. Hair would not be as the same with previous even if it grows again, hair is usually fair and weak, this would not lead to esthetic problem.

Can laser epilation be performed with Nd Yag long pulse laser?

Laser epilation may be performed in four seasons with Nd Yag long pulse laser. It may safely be used even in tanned skin. Laser and light sources in various wave lengths are used in our clinic.

Can laser epilation be performed with Alexsandrite?

This laser type is available in our clinic as it may be successfully used for different hair types and different body parts.

Success of laser epilation is directly associated with skin color, hair structure, proper laser type and proper dose selection.

Is pain felt during laser epilation?

Varying degrees of pain may be felt depending on the device and pain threshold of the subject. However pain has been reduced through the recent technologic developments and advanced cooling systems.

How many sessions should laser epilation be performed?

Permanent outcomes may be yielded with 5-8 sessions or discontinued after 2-3 sessions, hair may become less and weaker.

Who cannot be applied laser epilation?

  • In pregnant women (due to insufficient clinical studies),
  • In presence of local infection at application site,
  • In patients with epilepsy and chronic skin diseases,
  • In patients who are using high dose vitamin A and tetracyclin,
  • In patients with diseases like SLE which is triggered by light,

What are the side effects of laser epilation?

It has no side effects when applied by experts and after proper laser selection. A temporal redness and swelling may be seen however spontaneously regress within several hours. Ice compress may shorten the duration of redness.

Hair yellowing with laser

Hair in face, upper arm, umbilicus which are not completely eliminated or which cannot be seen by laser may be made invisible with laser. Most of this hair falls. This is not a method used for completely removing hair. The subject feels comfortable for only 1-3 months.

It is a proper method for every skin type and in every season. It is painless, there is not the risk of spot . A very mild redness develops and reduces 1-2 hours later.

Temporal hair removal

The hair that cannot be seen with Alexandrite, Nd Yag laser, Diot laser is applied Q-switched Nd yag laser. Hair falls however grows again. Effect lasts for 1-2 months. It may be alternative to wax or string. It is not epilation, it is depilation.

Needle epilation

It is a method used for permanent removal of very fine and white hair that cannot be seen by laser. Hair root is destroyed with a weak electric flow. Number of sessions may vary depending on growing time, structure and density of the hair. It is a method which requires experience and hygiene.
